The End of Adobe Flash Player

We remember the days when having a fancy website almost inevitably meant relying on "Flash". This little wonder plugin from Adobe was responsible for a huge amount of animation on the web a decade ago and it was almost a mainstay in our browsers. However, a couple of years ago Adobe themselves flagged that they would stop updating and distributing the Flash Player at the end of 2020. Now, with that date not too far around the corner Google has indicated that Flash Player elements will no longer be indexed by Google...at all.

Given Google accounts for about three quarters of all search traffic globally, Flash no longer being indexed by them basically spells the end for that little piece of software. Luckily only about 3% of sites utilize the Flash code, so you're likely be to safe from hitting Google's bad books in this regard, but if you do have an older site reliant on Flash, this should definitely be the kick needed to get yourself a new website.
